Suse and I went for coffee today at the Brockley Mess. And so did Lattie the Basenji. I had never heard of the breed before and by the sounds of it I thought it was maybe Japanese. It turns out however it's a very old breed from central Africa which has a lot of similarity with the Aussie dingo in that it doesn't bark but howls and yodels. Imagine that...high on a hill was a lonely goat-herd. The reason they can't bark is because of the unusual size of their larynx. Another similarity they have with the Dingo is that the Basenji doesn't have a distinctive odor.
Lattie is nine years old and was bought from a breeder in Walthamstow.
